Went to the Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda, Co. Louth on Saturday to check out the latest exhibition, I was impressed the space held 30 paintings, It didn’t seem that there was thirthy I would have said 20! I have to say I was impressed with the work, very painterly and it contained different layers, which Sinead talked about I got to meet and have a chat with her which was great opportunity to ask what the work was about and so on. I got a video of the gallery and her work it will be up soon and I will talk about my encounter with the artist and the work itself when they are up. Thanks for reading and here is the link to the The Highlanes Gallery.

An interesting rap….

Went to the arts centre last week to check out Robert Ballaghs solo exhibition EGO. He has a series of self portraits and drawings on display there, I never seen his work before my encounter last week, I think he is technically good but while I was looking at the work I thought there was too much EGO in it for me to handle too many self portraits! His signature which looks like a trademark logo of some sort annoyed me I thought it was quite pretentious. He had a book of his work and you had to wear a pair of gloves to flick through it I didn’t bother looking apparently the book was worth 3,000 euro I wouldn’t wear the gloves if it was worth a million euro. Ballagh wasn’t even there but he managed to annoy me! Today I went back to the arts centre and there he was! Giving a talk on his work, So I listened..And he said that ego wasn’t about being egotistical..But about “I” about him…I found that hard to swallow! He also talked about how he liked to annoy people with his work well that’s something he can do well its a pity I can’t say the same about his work. Robert Ballagh, Arts Centre.

On Friday the 15th of October two of my fellow classmates and I attended a talk in NCAD in Dublin. The talk was given by Jeanne Van Heeswijk she is a community based artist and she spoke about her projects which were based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It was very interesting and it showed me that community work can be very broad and you can be very creative. Here is the link to her website to find out more www.jeanneworks.net
